Cutback asphalt is asphalt cement blended with petroleum solvents to produce a more liquid or fluid product thus improving handling and work-ability qualities. Exposure to atmosphere evaporates the solvents and the remaining asphalt performs the intended function. Variation in the types of solvent used produces the following products: a) Rapid curing asphalt (RC), b) Medium curing asphalt (MC), and c) Slow curing asphalt (SC).
