Masonry cement is a mill-mixed cementitious material to which sand and water must be added. See ASTM C 91.2.
Hydraulic cement produced for use in mortars for masonry construction where greater plasticity and water retention are desired than is obtainable by the use of portland cement alone. Such cements always contain one or more of the following materials: portland cement, portland-pozzolan cement, natural cement, slag cement, hydraulic lime. They usually contain one or more of the following: hydrated lime, pulverized limestone, chalk, talc, pozzolan, clay or gypsum; many masonry cements also include air-entraining and water-repellent additions.
