Surfactant is in asbestos work, a chemical wetting agent added to water to improve penetration into the asbestos thus reducing the amount of water required for a given operation or area. This surfactant is spray applied to the asbestos to decrease the amount of airborne fibers while removing the asbestos material from the substrate. (Wetting agent-50% polyglycol ether and 50% polyoxyethlene ether or approved equal shall be mixed with water to provide a concentration of 1 oz. surfactant to 5 gallons of water or the manufacturer’s recommended concentration).
